Giving away of 5 component Lego pieces of the Portrait to 5 lucky visiting guests.
Teleporting Ng Eng Teng is an art project conceived to materialize the digital portrait of the local Pioneer sculptor Mr Ng Eng Teng within the show space over a period of two months. With a set of six 3D printing machines representing the Teleporting Machine Formation, the late Sculptor will be brought back to our physical world from the digital dimension. The project aims to showcase a multi-layer conceptual approach in the application of state-of-art digital tools in contemporary sculpture making, such as the VR presentation of 3D scanned sculpture of Eng Teng from The Teng Collection, the construction of digital portrait of Eng Teng through VR tools, and the animated presentation of his digital portrait on 2D and 3D Hologram (Looking Glass).
On 17th June 2023 Saturday, the 2-meter tall portrait of Eng Teng is expected to be completed and the exhibition of the finished sculpture will begin. Our Guest-of-Honour, Mrs Tan-Soh Wai Lan, NAFA President, will officially launch this gigantic ‘gilded’ portrait.
We would like to invite you to come and celebrate with Yeo Chee Kiong at the fulfilment of this meaningful project. To further mark the special event and as a gesture of continuity of Eng Teng’s legacy, five “Lego” blocks out of the approximated two hundred pieces that make the whole portrait will be awarded to five visiting guests through some interactive events. The awarded visiting guests will be able to choose the Lego of their choice with exclusive sequence numbers and artist signature. We look forward to seeing you on the day.

Awaiting for Teleporting Ng Eng Teng on 22nd April 2023, Saturday 3 pm
Stage: 3rd Week
LOOKING GLASS
Show Period: 21 Apr - 25 June 2023
Teleporting Ng Eng Teng 2023 is an experimental sculpture project to be conducted through VR 3D modeling software based on traditional clay modeling skill. It is a 3D printing project aimed at teleporting our pioneer sculptor, the late Mr Ng Eng Teng, back to the contemporary dimensions of the 21st Century metaphorically. The research project hopes to re-establish the conversation between a young sculptor and the revered pioneer back in 1991, when they first met each other at a sculpture workshop conducted by the late artist himself during the show period of Sculpture In Singapore 1991 at the former National Museum Art Gallery.
The sculptor, Yeo Chee Kiong, attempts to create a digital reconstruction of the 3D portrait of the late Mr Ng based on opened online images. A gigantic portrait (approximate height of 1.8 m) representing the pioneer as a Titan in Singapore Art history will be printed out LEGO by LEGO (20 cm x 20 cm x 10 cm each) through multiple sets of 3D Printing machines throughout a two-month show period. During the printing duration, a series of VR versions on plasmas, 3D projection, and AR versions through QR code will allow the visitors to access the digital dimension where the Titan is, where he is awaiting to be re-THINGing in tangible reality.
The sculptor will collaborate with The Teng Collection to present Mr Ng Eng Teng’s sculptures in both physical and digital versions during the show period. A series of artist talk and sharing sessions with art historians and collectors will be conducted during the show period and at the end of the Teleporting Project.

Talk 1 - The Shared Memories of Ng Eng Teng
by Yeo Chee Kiong, Teng Jee Hum, Koh Nguang How
In 1991, Yeo Chee Kiong was a 2nd year sculpture student at NAFA. That year, he participated in the National Museum Art Gallery’s epic exhibition Sculpture in Singapore curated by T.K. Sabapathy, and attended the sculpture workshops conducted by the late Mr Ng Eng Teng as a fringe event of the same exhibition. Through the lens of Koh Nguang How, whose photographic documentations provide precious visual testimony of the nationwide sculpture show, and the views of Mr Teng Jee Hum as the Founder of The Teng Collection who had visited Eng Teng’s studio and collected some of his works including the huge sculpture “Torso to Face (female)”, they will shared about their experiences in observing the development of sculpture during the 90s through their shared memories with Eng Teng.
3 pm to 4 pm:
Talk 2 - Open Source in Digital Age
by iCare.4u & Yeo Chee Kiong
In Jan 2022, Yeo Chee Kiong asked an overseas friend about the latest modelling software available, something that is user friendly, affordable, and easy to adapt without the need for lengthy investment of time in learning to use the new software. He was given a positive reply, followed by a long list of open-source softwares together with names of equipment required and the best bargain price list of digital tools. With the support of online workshops and speedy responses from a pool of overseas experts, he started his digital journey and six months later, he decided to put up a challenge to himself by putting up a sculpture project that is based on digital tools. He is committed to learn and use whatever is necessary to launch the event along the way without commissioning any professional technicians/artists to deliver the final artwork. The Teleporting Ng Eng Teng show is the evidence of his efforts in resolving technical issues of the digital tools, problems faced in the on-site installations, and the long duration of the digital production. With the guidance acquired from online workshops, instructions from overseas and local friends, he gathered all sorts of possible solutions to deliver a sculptor’s vision. iCare4U is one of the local supporters who sponsored the state-of-art hologram equipment and provided some of the technical solutions during the preparation of the show. Through the sharing session, Chee Kiong is willing to share the details about the free and easy digital production, some entry level tips, and the list of free softwares and digital tools for those who want to give it a try. We will demonstrate some user-friendly digital tools for beginners as below:
